Welcome!

The Ruff Life PAWS (Pets Are Worth Saving)  rescue is a non-profit organization.
All dog's are adopted out for a very minimal cost.
We do not make any money off of them. As you can imagine, having all these dogs can be very expensive because of vet bills & food.
For example: When we are at full capacity, we are feeding 32 cups of food per day.
Donations are always appreciated and accepted. Any little thing will help these dogs have a better life & future.
Please help us, help them!
For more information on any of our dogs please email monique@therufflife.ca

At this time we have no dogs available for adoption.

Dozer~ADOPTED

Dozer
(Great Pyrenees x Border Collie)

We adopted Dozer (aka. Big D) from the SPCA in the Summer of 2010.

Even know Dozer is 3 years old, he is such an old gentle soul. Dozer is very content being close to his humans and LOVES to spend time with them. Dozer is the best of both worlds! He is really laid back in the house and doesn't require a ton of exercise but also can be a great running partner, loves camping, and hiking. "Big D" as we affectionately call him, loves other dogs, kids, and people. He is an all around amazing dog!

Dozer is a very handsome man! and he brings smiles to our faces on a daily basis.

Dozer is looking for his forever home.

UPDATE: (November. 25th 2013): DOZER has finally found is PERFECT forever home

A bit about Dozer...
Dozer resided with us (as part of our Ruff Life PAWS Rescue) until the Spring of 2013, when he was adopted into a very busy family! Unfortunately after 6 months of being in his adopted home, Dozer was returned back to us, because he wasn't the "right fit" for their family.

THEN... Thanksgiving weekend in 2013 Dozer was adopted by his new family! It was very apparent that Dozer picked his home, as much as they picked him. It was destined to be...

We are so very happy, grateful, and overjoyed with the perfect match that happened. I (Monique) am not a religious person... however I do believe in fate, miracles and destiny... and I believe with all of my heart that this match was meant to be...   Anyone who see's Dozer with his new family will attest to this as well... He is so very happy!

Here is a comment I received from one of my friends who saw Dozer with his new family at BX Dog Park! "We just so Dozer at BX. He looks SO Happy!!!" So if you see this bundle of joy with his family.. make sure you say Hi!

Thank you so much Kathy & Bryce for everything...

Niko- ADOPTED

NIKO
Pitbull X Mastiff

Everyone meet Niko. He was born in 2009 and is a Neutered Male Pitbull/Mastiff Cross. He is a VERY handsome man with a lot of love to give. Niko came from a poorly socialized home- although he had lots of love... he was unsure of new situation, men, dogs...etc. He has been progressing with flying colours since he came to us March. 7th, 2012. Niko is a very cuddly man and is happy being active or just cuddling in bed- in the sun beams- or at your feet all day long. Niko has been through obedience training with The Ruff Life and knows all his commands- and can jump through hoops that are 4ft off of the ground. This man is a pleaser!!!

Niko is now good with most people, and most dogs... but in some situations he can still be sensitive and un-sure. Niko will need an experienced handler.

UPDATE: In Feb 2013 Niko was adopted to a lovely couple. Usually when this big handsome man met a new person he was unsure and a bit stand offish. But when this new family came to meet him, he instantly connected with them!! (Something we rarely saw). We knew at that moment that Niko had picked his family! Niko now enjoys running with his new mommy, sniffing out the average, cuddling (of Course!!!) and doing all the outdoorsy stuff that this couple LOVES to do. We are so very happy Niko found his forever home... he has come so far in his short life.

BENNY~ ADOPTED!

BENNY
(Border Collie X Australian Shepard)

Everyone Meet Benny!
Benny came to us at the end of June. 2010. He was born December.1st, 2009. He is a very handsome boy, that will always make you smile and laugh because he has so much personality. He loves playing with dogs, and is a big suck that loves attention. Benny is a Border Collie/Australian Shepard Cross.
Benny is a very keen dog that loves to learn new things. He is very obedient, great with other dogs and has the cutest quirks! He LOVES to carry blankets around in his mouth and then fall asleep sucking them.

UPDATE: In August, 2012 Benny finally adopted his Forever Family.
Benny and his new mom enjoy hiking and running outdoors amongst other outdoor activities. This goofball has fit in well with his owner and makes her laugh all the time with his goofy antics. He is a handsome dog, who is enjoys learning new tricks and creating amusement. There is never a dull moment around their house. <3

Zeus-ADOPTED

Zeusy!
 (German Pincher)

We rescued Zeus back in the Winter of 2009 from a Vet Clinic where his owner surrendered him. Zeus was extremely scared of people and snappy at almost every dog. He had no bowl or bladder control because he was so scared when he came to us.

Zeus is now a confident and happy and healthy boy. We are happy to tell you that we plays with tons of dogs on a regular basis, and loves to get treats from new people. Zeus is known for the little noises he makes...and everyone who meets him falls in love with him almost immediately.

Zeus LOVES to learn new things especially if there is food involved. He would be a great dog for an active home, someone who wants to learn/does agility, or a companion for someone who hunts.

For more information on adopting one of The Ruff Life PAWS dogs please email Monique at monique@therufflife.ca or call 250.550.0390

Update: Zeus was adopted in the Fall of 2012. Here is an update from this new family:
The much anticipated info and update on Deuce AKA Juice, Zeus, 2 and so on. We absolutely adore this newest member of our family. The kids say he is wonderful to play with, walk and take to the dog parks. He is my faithful daily companion, a wonderful traveller and can keep up with the best of them with bladder control. Way to go 2!! We couldn't be happier with your work and love for dogs to have brought him from the place he was at. We look forward to our time to reunite you with "noisey" and further grow our bond with him through training. Thanks Monique for being so patient.

Lex~ADOPTED!

LEX
(Red Nose Pitbull)

Lex came to us in the summer of 2010.
Yes! This is what he looked like when he showed up with his first owner. (Way to cute) Lex came from a loving family, but due to serious allergies that came up after they got him~ they had to find him a new home. Lex is one of the sweetest dogs I have ever worked with. He is a Red Nose Pit-bull- but I don’t think I have had an easier dog to train--come through The Ruff Life. He really is an angel. Lex (aka. Lexi or Sexy) loves his big brother Kilo. They spend countless hours snuggling.

Lex is a great dog for an active home- or he can also be the mellow cuddly dog that we all know and love.

UPDATE: In October, 2012 Lex finally adopted his Forever Family, it just happened to be the same home as his big brother Kilo! Lex and Kilo have always been inseparable, so it touched our hearts to see them together again!
Lex loves cuddle time, outdoor running with his other two furry companions and helping with the chores around the farm. The little girl in the family has grown extremely attached Lex and they love to watch TV together and play dress up:)  Lex is now apart of a wonderful family, who adore him.

Kilo~ ADOPTED

Kilo
 (Blue Nose Pit-bull)

Kilo came to us in the Winter of 2009. He came from a very loving family, but had socializing issues~ and was very unsure and scared of new situations, places and a lot of different kinds of dogs. Kilo is our little snuggle bug~ he loves to cuddle under the covers...ALL DAY. Lol. He is known for winning over everyone’s heart and for being the "mascot" for my husband and his dirt bike friends....as he LOVES to run with them, when they go on a ride.

Kilo is now a very stable man. He has knows all his obedience commands and loves to snuggle with the other short hair dogs in the family. (Or his humans) He is the perfect house dog!

UPDATE: On April.30th, 2012 Kilo finally adopted his Forever Family. Kilo is already settled in and is winning over everyones heart... as he has always done. Kilo spends his time bringing life back into Bailey's (12 yr old- Chocolate Lab/Pit Bull) days... (Picture below) and cuddling with his humans. The little girl in the family has grown extremely attached to Mr. Lo already... and they don't leave each others side. Kilo is now apart of a wonderful family with a mommy & daddy... two young children, Bailey the family dog, and horses.

Gucci~ ADOPTED

(Picture taken by Trail Waggers)

Gucci
(The German Shepard)

Gucci was surrendered by her owners Winter of 2010. Gucci came from a loving family that lived on a farm. She was displaying aggression towards people, and dogs. Her owners were not able to control the situation, so they decided to find her a more suitable home.
Because Gucci came from a farm she was not socialized to a lot of things, and is still antsy in some situations. Gucci is a very loving soul, very motherly. We are happy with her progress as she is now very comfortable and friendly with all of our daycare & boarding dogs. She will still be with us for a while, to make sure she is as stable as possible.

UPDATE:Gucci is now a very stable girl! She Loves playing with other dogs (which took her 9 months to learn how to play) and loves attention. She is very Keen and is always trying to figure out what your trying to say to her.

UPDATE: In March 2012 Gucci was placed into a very busy household, with a loving family! She did really well for the first little bit she was there, but then started to revert back to a couple of her bad habits. Unfortunately, she was put back up for adoption!

In September 2012 she was re-homed to wonderful couple who lives up north! Gucci now is someones number one!! ;) Which makes her a very happy pooch. Gucci now spends time on a large acreage and gets to prance around and chase after mice! (What she does best!)

Bella- Adopted!

Bella
(Pitbull X Lab)

Everyone meet Bella. She is a 10-12 month old female Pitbull / Lab cross. (We think)
Bella is a VERY affectionate girl! Who loves people, and especially kids.

Bella was found on a Hwy, scared, skinny, and poorly socialized towards dogs. Her first foster home, did amazing work with her. She is finally putting on some weight and is starting to act like a dog again. <3

Bella seems very intimidated by dogs at the moment, so any new home would have to keep that in mind when wanting to adopt her. She is also an escape artist, and can climb 6 foot fences. We are working on this with her, but it will make adopting her a little more difficult.

Bella will staying at The Ruff Life for approx a month before she will go up for adoption. We will be working on her social skills, getting her comfortable with dogs, and making sure that she isnt pregnant.

UPDATE: Bella actually came into heat, when we had thought she might have been pregnant. Which is such good news! Bella was spayed yesterday. (Aug.12th) and will be ready to go in about 10 days- 2 weeks. Bella has come such a long way, and it is going to be so hard to send her off to her new life. She is such a darling, and has touched so many peoples lives. Inquires are welcome at this time.

ADOPTION UPDATE: Bella was adopted into a loving home at the end of September. 2011. She not only is the baby of the house, but she is the spoiled girl she deserves to be. Bella loves to go on daily walks with her new family... and be someones number one dog!!! Thank you Lorraine & Brian!

ELWAY- ADOPTED!

ELWAY
(Shepard X Border Collie)

Everyone meet Elway! He is in need of a forever home or a foster home ASAP. His owners are moving on Friday and do not want to take him to the SPCA. Elway has had a ton of training, and would just need someone to be consistent with him. He is approx. 19 months old, un-neutered Male- Shepard/Border Collie.  He is very playful, loves kids, loves to swim. With this mix of breeds, Elway will need someone who is pretty active. So if you like the great outdoors....this dog is for you!

Here is the link to The Ruff Life Facebook Page...where you can find photo albums with Elway Playing. He is the dog with the long lead attached. http://www.facebook.com/therufflife

Please contact Monique at (250)550-0390 or monique@therufflife.ca

This is a time sensitive manner, if you could pass this on to any one who might be interested, that would help Elway soooo much!

UPDATE: Elway was adopted to a wonderful family from Falkland! He is officially a country boy :) He spends his time relaxing on the deck, being outdoors, and playing ball~  Elway is the new "Denver Bronco Quarterback" :-) and is a great catch :-)
